Student Veterans Club Receives Grant
Mont Alto, PA - The Student Veteran Club at Penn State Mont Alto was recently awarded a $1500 grant from Student Veterans of America. The club will use the funds to implement its business plan, including increasing the visibility of veterans on campus, increasing Veteran Club membership, and enhancing the college experience for student veterans.
The Student Veteran Club has already had some significant successes at Penn State Mont Alto. On September 11, 2012, the club dedicated the Veterans Memorial in front of Conklin Hall. The club was involved with the planning, fundraising, and development of the memorial site. The club also sponsored a day-long event for the entire campus on Veterans Day 2013. The event included military equipment demonstrations and a memorial service held at the Veterans Memorial on campus.
Student Veterans of America (SVA) commended the Penn State Mont Alto chapter for its commitment and ingenuity in the past year. The Penn State Mont Alto SVA chapter was one of only six college and university chapters across the United State to be invited to participate in SVA’s 2014 Business Plan Competition on January 4, 2014, in Scottsdale, Arizona.
“We are working hard to ensure that the transition from the military to college life at Penn State Mont Alto is a smooth one,” said Kathy Swope, Penn State Mont Alto veterans coordinator. “We want to see our veterans succeed, and we are anxious to implement the Student Veteran Club business plan in the coming year,” Swope added.
